What a meth addict taught me about God’s love

I was driving home last Sunday feeling super peaceful and blissed out after my son's beautiful baptism in Christ that day when I came across a car accident. It soon transpired that a group of meth addicts had run their car into a young woman’s van.

All the boys from the car had run off except one man who was off his face and started to threaten people with his screw driver and parts of his smashed car.

Thankfully the young woman of the van was ok albeit in shock, but things became dark when the meth addict then tried to jump into the woman’s van and steal her handbag whilst we were trying to call for help and when she tried to stop him, he attacked her.

I then felt the incredible energy of God move through me and a loud voice that was not my own commanding the man to let her go and he did and she was able to escape towards us.

Thankfully an angel then interceded in the form of a woman passing by who turned out to be a corrections officer who thankfully had the skills to restrain violent men and was able to stop the man from further harming the young girl or anyone else till the police arrived. It was no surprise the t-shirt she was wearing had angel wings on it.

Though it was a horrible situation in that space I still saw the love of God move. The corrections officer, members of the public, police officers, paramedics, fire men all moving in to help serve and protect others. I felt the peace of God on me as I faced an awful situation and prayed over everyone there including the meth addict who was so wild it took 5 officers to restrain him and a paramedic to put a jab in his butt to put him to sleep.

But one of the things I felt Jesus call on me to pray extra prayers for in that situation was for the meth addict. Jesus said to me out of everyone there it was the meth addict who was the sickest of them all.

I felt the mothering love of God move towards the meth addict, an unconditional love. Christ then showed me how this man was riddled with demonic entities that he had no doubt opened himself up to from drug abuse and suffered, and when people who hurt and suffer in evil and ignorance they cause hurt and harm to others.

Forgive him for he knows not what he does. Pray for him that he encounters the love of the One who created him. Pray he is set free and liberated from the darkness and evil that resides in him.

I’ve found when you walk with Jesus as your teacher He will tell you to pray for both the saint and the sinner and the persecutor and persecuted, for God gives His love to both and all, unconditionally, especially to those who are sick like the meth addict.

This incident taught me and reminded me to still pray for and send love to the darkest parts that exist in our world for the darkness cannot live in the light and truth of love.

And that when you abide in God the most awful situation of hell could be unfolding all around you but you are grounded in a deep inner peace, love and stillness that cannot be touched or tainted by anything in the outer.

Jesus taught me once how it’s easier to judge and hate than it is to love. To pray for and love men like the meth addict is not easy, it’s not saying what they did was ok or acceptable, it most definitely wasn’t, but it’s saying despite the evil and darkness emitting from this person beneath all that crap still dwells the Spirit of God’s child who is so lost in the dark they do not know what they do, literally. And instead of hatred and judgment a sense of compassion arises.

I remember my mum telling me once that when she sees a criminal or an addict she likes to imagine they were once upon a time a sweet little innocent baby who unfortunately grew up and chose the wrong path in life.

To love like Jesus loves is to see the Spirit of God, the child of God in that person despite the darkness that they may be acting out in

So if there is someone in your life right now who has angered you, hurt you, upset you, traumatised you, bullied, judged or condemned you I invite you to pray for them and to send them love and as you do so your own heart will be healed, softened and transformed into peace.

It’s easy to pray for your loved ones or people you like but the true test of the depth of your relationship and commitment in God is your ability to also pray for those who’ve trespassed against you.

I found from my experience on Sunday that when I got home I felt this incredible peace and stillness despite what I had just dealt with. In the past when I had faced horrible and traumatic situations I would often feel shaken, shocked and unsettled for several days but instead of this I just felt peace and I realised the more you ground yourself into God, abide in God, His love, peace, power and protection surrounds you and nothing in the outer world can touch or taint the love and peace you have in God. It was a very profound moment.

Praying the peace of God surrounds you this day too no matter what you face.

Love Note From The Lord

Forgive them for they know not what they do, My child. Unforgiveness poisons your spirit, corrupts the heart and sets you apart from My love. Forgive others as I have forgiven you and know that all wounds, pain, suffering and traumas are a result of being separated from My love. People who walk in the dark, whose hearts are hardened and who live in ignorance do not know what they do and are not aware of the pain, suffering and misery they inflict on themselves and others so pray for these people who’ve hurt you, pray they are healed, their hearts are opened, they are forgiven and pray may the love and peace of the Most High blesses them this day and every day moving forward. Coming home to Me My child you’ll be required to forgive and to love others, including your enemies and those who’ve harmed you. Forgive others, forgive yourself,  for to forgive is to love and to love is to be set free from the burdens of pain, suffering and misery. I love you. All is well.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little. (Luke 7:47)

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34)
