Don’t Waste Your Time Arguing About God

Last night I found myself in a conundrum. 

I realised that there are a lot of things that people who proclaim to follow Jesus or be Christians say, do or teach things that I don’t agree with, that is in direct opposition to the things that God has revealed to me.

And I see a lot of people arguing over God, arguing with each other about God. And last night when I felt the need to question or possibly go into an argument with someone’s view point on God that didn’t line up with what He had shown me and backed with scripture, I felt the Holy Spirit say to me - HOLD UP! 

So I stopped and paused at that moment before I was about to message this person and ask God for His perspective on this, and I got told to read the following scriptures - 

Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others. In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus. (Phillipians 2:4-5)

God works for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

And then I got the message - 

My child, do not waste your time and energy on theological debates, arguing over beliefs about God, or judging and condemning others for differing beliefs and viewpoints about God rather My child, I ask you to take that energy and focus on Jesus, focus on cultivating a mind of Christ and focus on what is God leading you on this day in your personal walk with the Lord, with Me. Hand all anger, judgments, and condemnations over to Me and trust that I Am working through people in ways you cannot see according to the purposes I have ordained them for. Focus on your own lane, your walk with Me, I turn all things to good, and trust that all is well, it truly is.

In that moment, I then felt this sense of freedom overcome me as I realised I’m not here to focus on the disagreements or the varying points of view around who and what God is or isn’t, but to focus instead on Jesus and cultivating the same mindset as Christ and that God is working things out with different people and bringing right understanding to people according to His purposes with them.

Accompanying this sense of freedom, I felt a revelation that it’s not my job to spend my time arguing/disagreeing or not liking what fellow people in Christ or those who don’t follow Christ say, think, agree on or don’t agree on or do but to instead take that energy and focus on Jesus, to cultivate a heart and mind like Jesus, and follow what He is calling me to do and be each day. 

Simple. 

So I guess next time if any one of us feels the need to argue, defend, fight or justify our beliefs or perceptions in God, to stop, pause, reflect, hand it over to God and ask Him to guide us in a loving way through the situation at hand. 

God will always guide you to love others, to forgive others, to be of service to others even those who persecute you and that it’s ok if people don’t like or agree with you or what you have to say because at the end of the day it only matters what is God's guidance and opinion for you and your life today, not the worlds. 

In God we find eternal truth. In the world and other peoples beliefs we find temporary truths subject to decay. God’s eternal truth is to love one another as God loves you. 

For love is all there is and in love all wounds are healed and in love people are restored to who and what their Creator designed them for. 

Love is the language of God and God’s truth, remember that. 

Trust. Remember. All is well.
