Don’t turn God into a religion
Yesterday I heard God say to me-
“My child, do not make our relationship into a religion.”
I paused. I took a step back. I realised in that moment that without realising it the spirit of religion had started to creep into my relationship with God.
I’d started to create rules and regulations and human ideas around how I needed to be, look, do things in order to abide in God, to receive, experience and be a vessel of His love.
To be a “good girl” so to speak.
I then noticed how the enemy had started to convince me that I needed to be a certain way, speak a certain way, do things a certain way, look a certain way so I’d be “acceptable and approved of by God.”
But then God pulled me right up and reminded me that He is not a religion, rite, rule or ritual but LOVE.
A love that delights in me, that accepts me where I am right now, that desires to heal and restore me in love, and to joyfully create, play and express through me. A love that is UNCONDITIONAL.
A prophet at my church the other week said to me “God wants you to know that He delights in you, adores you and He absolutely loves your personality.”
I found myself welling up with emotion because that week I’d been judging and condemning my personality and believing I was too bogan, not polished or perfect enough.
Through this prophet God reminded me that He loved me and accepted me as I am, where I am and that God was THE ONE who’d created my personality, my sense of humour, my quirkiness in the first place. It was okay to simply be me, warts and all.
It was me who’d started to place rules, regulations and restrictions on my relationship with God, and how I thought I had to be in my relationship with the Almighty, I was doing this, not God.
And the enemy loves to do this.
Satan has created a plethora of religions, rites, rules and rituals to keep mankind on a never ending hamster wheel of feeling stuck and restricted, caught up in fluffy spiritual paraphernalia where they have a relationship with the religion and the idea and image of who they think God is RATHER than actually cultivating and developing a deep and intimate relationship and FRIENDSHIP with God Himself which starts in one’s own inner being and heart.
To help people break free from the spirit of religion I recorded a podcast on this very topic here - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/living-a-life-in-god/id1659162791?i=1000699583839
I invite you to spend time with God and ask Him to break you free from the spirit of religion and to repent for anywhere you’ve put religion, rites, rules and rituals ahead of God.
If you’re someone who has had religious trauma around the word repenting, repenting is telling God you’re done with a certain way of living, being and doing things and asking for Him to heal you and set you free from it. Repenting is a powerful healing tool when used in healthy ways.
God will set you free from the spirit of religion because God is not a fan of Satan and man’s restrictive religions because it can keep His children from having a direct and personal relationship and FRIENDSHIP with Him.
When God came to us in the form of Jesus He set about dismantling the religious spirit and religious obsessed minds of men, not building them up.
Satan will convince people Jesus/God is a religion and a stuffy controlling religion at that but when we have a direct and authentic relationship with Christ we are actually set free from the spirit of religion, rites, rules and rituals.
When we are set free from the spirit of religion we come home to abide in an incredible river of unconditional love, an ocean of God’s love that loves the saint and the sinner, the persecuted and persecutor, a love that has no religion, rites, rules or rituals because LOVE IS UNIVERSAL and LOVE GIVES unconditionally to all.
Religion is Satan and ignorant man made.
Love is from God and God made.
Love is all there is and if God was to have a religion it would be called LOVE.
Trust
Remember
All is well
Yours in Christ,
Ellen xoxo
