Burning Down The House
This morning as I was sitting quietly I heard a song start to play in my head, singing -
Burning down the house.
When I looked the song up it said it was written in 1982 to be a metaphor for destroying something safe that entrapped you.
And then I've recently been getting the Bible verses -
Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and burn their Asherah poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names from those places.
(Deuteronomy 12:3-4)
Your people will fall slain among you, and you will know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel. 6:7)
And I was like CRIKEY God what is with the spicey messages and song??? I ain't going to start doing violent and crazy things against other people or burn down houses. What the hell is this all about, God???
And then I received the following message -
My beloved one, where in your life have you made other people or things your source. Where have you got external idols that distract you and detract you from the power and source of The Divine who is always to be found WITHIN YOU. It is time to burn down and dissolve anything and anyone you've made your source, your source of safety, security, worth, wealth, success, abundance, etc. To dissolve and do away with anything and anyone you've made an idol of and have put before your own source and connection in The One who created you who dwells WITHIN YOU as you.
It is time to break free of places, spaces and people that have appeared as your safety but have actually entrapped you in a life of less than what I would have you create and live My child. It's time to break free of the old and to create the new in Me and to create the new in Me is to rest within your own heart and LISTEN to the guidance and wisdom pertained there.
And then I received this verse -
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. (Deuteronomy 6:5)
Like a lot of people with religious patriarchal trauma, I often associated those verses from Deuteronomy with a bullying patriarchal sky lord who hurt and harmed people but when I looked beyond the surface levels of the words, and the literal meanings, I was guided to see and know the deeper meanings to what the messages were pointing to that can help you to unravel a deeper message and meaning for your personal relationship and walk in God.
If you're unsure what the message means for you or if it brings something up for you to be healed and looked at, take it to God and ask for clarification.
Because in the literal sense there is no way I would go around smashing and burning other people's things and nor would I go around slaying other people but the underlying message was for me to break free and out of old habits, patterns, dependencies and co-dependencies that no longer served and supported me. It was a wake up call.
God will sometimes give us spicy messages to activate a healing, an awakening, to bring light to something that was once kept hidden in the dark and to help us to live and walk in the creative power He bestowed upon us that has always been within us, not outside of us in external objects, other people, idols and material things.
As God has continuously reminded me the source of all that I seek including God and all of His provision is to be found WITHIN.
So as a journal exercise today you may want to ask God the following questions -
God, where in my life is it time for me to burn down, let go and dissolve that which no longer serves and supports me?
God, where have I made other people or external objects my source of love, safety, security, support, wealth, abundance and well-being that don't ultimately serve and support me and my walk in you, Lord?
God, where in my life is it time to stop relying on others and to turn home within and rely on you and the love, safety, security, support, guidance, wisdom, wealth and well-being that you have for me?
Call on the Holy Spirit to show you where it's time to burn down the old and to create space for the new, and to break free of the spaces and people that may have once appeared as freedom but are actually an entrapment.
As always sending you much love,
Yours in Christ (a.k.a The Highest Love of God),
Ellen xoxo
